Podocarpus Totora
Please click on logo to return to catalog
The species of alpinus is native to both Australia and Tasmania and grows in the mountains at between 1500 and 2000 meters elevation. It is a densely branched bushy shrub with needles that are dark green above and bluish below. It usually grows about 1/2 to 3 meters high.
Alpinus Alpine Podocarpus
NEW!
‘BLUE GEM’ This is a very nice dwarf spreading selection of Podocarpus. The color is a fantastic light blue. It is a native of Tasmania and is listed as zone 7 but it is hardy in Hungary where I first saw it growing. The new growth is pink to light red and later turns blue and it will grow to about 2’ high and 3’ wide in 10 years.
Nivalis Snow Totora
The species of nivalis is native to New Zealand and grows in the mountainour regions. It is a prostrate shrub of about 1-3 meters and is very dense growing. It is one of the hardieat species of Podocarpus but is liated as zone 7 which might be false because the first time I saw it growing was in Hungry in a area of zone 6 or possibly even 5 with no additional protection.
NEW!
‘BRONZE’ This cultivar will grow to only 1.5 meters high and spreading. New growth is bronze at the tips holding this color for quite a while and then turning green . It is a native of New Zealand and even though it is listed as zone 7, I have seen it in Hungary in the cooler climate.

‘KRALINGEN’ This one is a mounding ground cover with green foliage. I am not sure of the history on this one but it is a nice one just the same.

Please prune the Globe Blue Spruce to return to the top.
