It is not uncommon in European gardens but it is still quite rare in the US. The leaves are glossy and glabrous above and the underside is densely gray tomentose turning a nice yellow in the fall. It is best known for the large showy 7-inch white flowers that reminds one of a tree full of doves while in flower in May.
